A beverage seller at the Akron Civic Theatre in Ohio made a fuss about not being tipped, though the customer claims she was moments away from tipping. Reddit user No-Company6123 says she was at the theater to enjoy an event with her husband and stopped at a vendor for drinks. While she calls the vendor a “bartender,” he wasn’t running a tap or mixing drinks, just selling cans and bottles. That said, the way he allegedly behaved was more than questionable.
No-Company says she ordered a beer and soda, and the vendor owed her a dollar in change. “I was intending on tipping him,” OP wrote in defense. “I took my change and started to poke in my wallet to see if I had other singles.” However, the bartender seemingly thought otherwise, believing she was indeed not going to tip.
The Bartender Allegedly Told OP to Never Come Back, Then Threatened Her
After pulling the jar in front of her, No-Company says that “he snapped and told me I wasn’t welcome back at his stand.” After a heated back-and-forth dialogue, the bartender allegedly threatened the woman, saying, “I can get you removed. Is that what you want?” She was dumbfounded: “Tip or no tip, that just felt entirely uncalled for.”
Redditors tuning in to No-Company’s story were just as appalled by the vendor’s behavior as she was. “Needing tips so bad and not one clue how to act to get them. Interesting,” chuckled a commenter. “I don’t understand why someone running a beer tub is entitled to a tip,” added a second user. “He blocked his own tip,” remarked a third.
Fortunately, No-Company says she still had a good night with her husband. Though she did say she reported the petty bartender to a manager, who allegedly documented it and gave her a “free water” as compensation.
OP admitted that she was quite tempted to go back to the bartender out of spite. Instead, she went to another stand, and a “very nice lady” got the tip she initially planned to give to the first vendor. If he had just had a little more patience, No-Company says she would have tipped him.
