Remember Jak and Daxter? One of PlayStation‘s iconic duos that hasn’t starred in a new game for over a decade? Well, apparently Sony still remembers them too. Unfortunately, it’s not because Naughty Dog is secretly cooking up a Jak 4 or even a remake of the original trilogy. Instead, a recent report suggests Sony is still working on adapting Jak and Daxter into a movie.
According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, also known as DanielRPK online, Sony is still moving forward with its Jak and Daxter movie. Reportedly, Gavin James and Neil Widener, who worked on A Minecraft Movie, are writing the screenplay. Meanwhile, Uncharted and Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer remains attached to direct the adaptation.

While this could be a sign that it’s finally getting out of development hell, a movie isn’t exactly what longtime fans have been waiting for. Over on Reddit, some are already hoping the project means a new, tie-in game is also on the horizon. “This must mean we’re getting a new game…right?” wrote one user. Others were, let’s just say, less enthusiastic. “Sony is like monkey’s paw personified,” complained another. “Like who asked for a jak and daxter and bloodborne movie bro just give us the games.”
Talks of a Jak and Daxter movie adaptation first surfaced way back in 2013. Then, after years of radio silence, Fleischer confirmed he was working on the project. Although he didn’t specify whether it would be live-action, animated, a movie, or a TV series. There were also rumors of Tom Holland and Chris Pratt being cast as the dynamic duo after Holland expressed interest in playing Jak in a ‘darker’ live-action adaptation by A24.
With Gravity Rush and Bloodborne big-screen adaptations also reportedly in the works, it seems Sony isn’t giving up on bringing more of its games to Hollywood. Whether that enthusiasm for movie production carries over into new Jak and Daxter games, however, is another question entirely.
