A woman was cosplaying at New York Comic Con when she claims she was allegedly approached by a man who wanted to shake her hand. When she felt uncomfortable doing so, she voiced this only for him to turn on her. Suddenly, she was called a bunch of cruel names by the other con attendee. She decided to tell her story on TikTok.
Silvana (@silvanacosplays) was cosplaying a Resident Evil character at New York Comic Con recently. She claimed she was having a fun day with her friend when, suddenly, they were approached by an adult male. The man was incredibly offended that Silvana wouldn’t reciprocate his alleged ‘friendliness’ toward her at the Con. Because of her experience, she’s telling her TikTok audience, “People need to learn a thing or two about boundaries.”
As Silvana claims, a man approached her and tried to shake her hand. Maybe he was spreading kindness to everyone, or maybe he really liked her cosplay. Either way, the situation soured when Silvana stood her ground and told him, “No thank you!” Even though Silvana told him she wasn’t interested, he tried to shake her hand again. Silvana’s friend stepped in and told the man Silvana wasn’t interested, hoping he would back off.
At this point, the man got very offended and started calling Silvana names. She said he muttered loudly, “Oh, [expletive] these days, why are they so nasty?” Silvana says her friend tried to defend himself and Silvana. The man then said, “Shut up before I beat the [expletive] out of both of you.” To this, Silvana was shocked. She asks her TikTok audience, “When did people get this comfortable threatening women? And then people wonder why women feel unsafe at Cons.”
Commenters immediately flooded Silvana’s comments, many defending her and sharing similar stories. One commenter suggested, “Hey, so please report that to Con. Find a volunteer and report.” Another commenter added, “Nowhere is safe anymore. No places to just exist. I’m so tired bro.”
One commenter shared that they experienced something similar at a recent con. They stated, “I had a guy randomly take a flash picture of me and I was like, ‘Ummm wtf’ and he just smiled…Like bruh.” Another commenter shared, “This happened to my daughter yesterday and he wouldn’t let go of her hand and my son had to go and grab his hand and remove it. My son and I were about to flip. We just kept our calm.”
As her video gains popularity, commenters continue to share their experiences, including interactions with people in public in general.
