Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker posted on X that he has made it his mission to give filmmakers every opportunity to bring productions to the state while creating good jobs and opportunities for residents. The post, which included a video, drew replies from online users who questioned the cost of film incentives and asked how the approach lowers taxes for ordinary Illinoisans. Commenters repeatedly described the effort as special tax cuts for Hollywood while residents face high taxes and past tax increases.

The video shows Gov. Pritzker outdoors greeting several people, including women wearing lanyards. In the clip, he says, “Oh, nice to meet you,” and one woman responds, “Love your vision for… I’m excited about this.” He continues, “Plus new industry for this area. It’s going to mean a lot to the local community.” One of the women states, “We’re film investor-producers. We stacked our film credits on our last film between Illinois and Missouri.”

Pritzker replies, “Okay, that’s awesome. Well, we want you over here,” before adding, “But I get you.” The footage does not show what occurred before or after the brief exchange.

According to the post text, Pritzker said he has made it his mission to give filmmakers every opportunity to bring their productions to Illinois while creating good jobs and opportunities for residents.

State announcements have reported film production expenditures reaching $703 million in 2025, with an estimated 18,100 industry hires and an independent analysis citing a $6.81 return on investment for the tax credit.

Online Reactions to Pritzker’s Illinois Film Post

Several commenters questioned the fairness of the approach for ordinary residents. One wrote, “Why does Hollywood get special tax cuts and the rest of us are stuck with the highest taxes in the nation, and 71 tax hikes that you passed? Hypocrisy!”

Another stated, “Tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires while we pay.”

Others zeroed in on who bears the cost. A reply noted, “You mean the taxpayers are giving the filmmakers the chance. Every dollar you spend comes from the taxpayer, not from you. You simply keep increasing taxes and fees on Illinoisans and spend it on things like this.”

A separate commenter asked directly, “How does this help lower my taxes?”

For now, the post has added one more moment to the ongoing conversation about Illinois’ film incentives. Online comments remain centered on the balance between industry opportunities and the tax costs borne by residents.
