A Texas woman called out Smoothie King after her order came in a cup she says didn’t match the advertisement. She says she paid for a rhinestone-covered tumbler and got something else. Viewers were split over whether the cups actually looked different. Others questioned why anyone would pay for something so easy to make.
Posted to TikTok by @ginajyneen, the video uses picture-in-picture to compare the cup she received with the one in the ad. “Smoothie King, count your days,” she says. The Texas creator then recounts how she waited in line and paid for the advertised cup. Instead, she was handed a regular cup with rhinestones glued onto it. She adds the employee at the window told her she had glued them on by hand.
In her caption, she asks viewers to tag @smoothieking.
Was It Really the Same Cup?
Commenters couldn’t agree on whether the cup actually looked different from the ad “Am I the only one who thinks the pic in the ad looks like a disposable cup with gemstones glued on it?” one viewer asked. Another said it looked exactly like what she was supposed to get, just missing the mini rhinestones around the rim. Someone else was more blunt, saying, “girl that’s the same [expletive] cup.“
Others were more forgiving, with some calling the cup cute and saying the Texas employee at least tried. Another said they looked into it and found that the reusable cup was only available at select locations, while most stores had the regular plastic cup with gems glued on.
Then there were those who thought the two cups looked noticeably different. “Should’ve asked for bedazzled and not bamboozled,” one viewer suggested. Another couldn’t believe people weren’t seeing the difference between the two. Someone else pointed out that the cup in the ad looks reusable, while the one she received was disposable.
Some viewers were more focused on issues besides whether the cups looked alike. One commenter questioned why people were paying for something they could make themselves. Another raised safety concerns about the cup design, saying, “Smoothie King, get ready for a lawsuit, cause that’s absolutely unsanitary, and I’m positive that ‘glue’ adhesive IS NOT food safe, even if they used gloves when gluing them and putting the drink inside.”
Ultimately, the issue came down to expectation versus reality. She ordered a cup based on what Smoothie King advertised, but the version she received didn’t look quite the same to everyone watching, including her.
