While many pet owners would do anything to keep their furry companions safe, one older Louisiana woman seemed to be at the opposite end of the spectrum. That is, she was caught driving with her dog in her lap, without a seatbelt, and a phone in her hand. This rather likely mix for disaster realized itself in a video shared by Reddit user Vorps22, showing the woman slamming straight into a car ahead of her that allegedly had a family.
Vorps22 was apparently the brother-in-law of Reddit user Knightlyte-, who confirmed she was the victim struck by the woman driving with her dog. She claims she was in the car with her kids when the accident happened, but fortunately, none of them were reportedly seriously injured. Meanwhile, many people were very concerned about the dog in the woman’s lap.
Reddit Slammed the Woman Over Her Lack of Safety for Herself and Her Pet Dog
“Omg that poor dog,” remarked a commenter. “Being irresponsible with your own life is one thing, but then to drag another life into your circle is next level reckless,” wrote another. “Poor thing didn’t deserve a boomer for an owner,” said a third. Dozens of others chimed in, asking whether the dog was alright.
Knightlyte- responded, saying, “I was the one that was hit. I’m not sure about the lady, but the dog, my kids, and I are all fine, despite being sore.” In a different comment, she adds that officers said the dog suffered a swollen eye after being flung into the dash during the collision. The authorities also reported that the pet owner was around 80 years old but allegedly was fine.
“I don’t know how, I would’ve thought she broke a wrist at least,” Knightlyte- wrote in disbelief. Some Redditors suspected the phone in the woman’s hand might have had something to do with her sudden acceleration into the family car in front of her.
“I guess, a phone was in her hand when she hit me,” said Knightlyte-. “You can see it fly across the car when you watch it .5 speed.” As to why she slowed down, she claimed several cars were turning in front of her.
In the end, no one reportedly suffered any major injuries, and the dog turned out to be okay. The older woman was lucky enough to have her airbag protect her, though Louisiana law might have something to say about her driving without a seatbelt on.
