Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has been facing a new challenge in his race for a spot in the U.S. Senate against Democrat James Talarico: reports that he partied with two fugitives from the law in Dubai. These reports have made Texas residents very angry, with many condemning the politician’s actions.
As reported by The Wall Street Journal, Paxton attended a New Year’s Eve party in Dubai in 2024, as celebrations welcomed 2025, alongside his girlfriend, Tracy Duhon. They were there with Anosh Ahmed and Sameer Suhail, two Americans who had been indicted on federal healthcare fraud charges and were fugitives from U.S. justice at the time.
The reports also revealed that Ahmed had donated a total of $190,000 to Paxton, including $25,000 donated after Ahmed was indicted. The newly revealed information will likely be used against Paxton in the current Senate race, which is heating up ahead of November.
Texans Criticize Ken Paxton’s Actions
Texas residents on r/Texas expressed anger and hopelessness after this recent connection came to light. One of them wrote: “It is truly unbelievable how staggeringly terrible a candidate Ken Paxton is.” Someone replied: “And yet he will get to 50% of the vote in Texas. It’s mind-numbingly tiresome sharing this state with these clowns.”
Others commented: “Well, it’s not like he needed to prep for something or actually do anything for this Senate race. He’s refused to debate Talarico, and instead just approves of all the completely bonkers commercials.”
What made some Texans really angry was their belief that Paxton could still win: “We all knew Ken Paxton is the worst of the worst. This kind of stuff does not surprise me. That the cult will still vote for him, party over anything, is insane and proof it is a full-blown cult.”
Some users took a more humorous approach, however, cracking jokes at the situation’s expense: “Typical WSJ liberal woke media hit piece. Can’t a married guy party overseas in the Middle East with his mistress and 2 donors/fugitives from justice anymore? Talarico wants to clean up this sort of good ol’ boys’ club corruption in government, but is that what you really want? It is, you say? Well, I’ll be damned.”
Recent polls show Talarico leading Paxton by a narrow margin, indicating that this could be a very tight race.
