Sometimes, enough is enough, and one Texas 8th-grade teacher felt they had put up with enough from their students. It was allegedly two boys who were continuously misbehaving, leaving Reddit user Plastic_Simple_1776 with few options in what the school wanted: build a relationship with students. While the school admin allegedly did bother helping them Plastic with this issue, they realized they could take matters into their own hands and kick the troublemakers out by law.
“After reading over the Texas Education Code that allows teachers to kick students out, I did it,” Plastic said, adding that they didn’t even bother asking the vice principal for permission. They simply sat down, did the paperwork, and let the parents and VP know what was going on. “Admin and district are scrambling because this has never happened,” Plastic chuckled.
The Classroom Enviornment Has Been Improving Since the Troublemakers Have Been Removed
The students, whom Plastic accuses of flipping tables for fun, aren’t allowed to come back to class until the school and parents develop an “intervention.” While the VP and likely the parents aren’t happy with this development, OP claims their class is “getting better.” Up until now, it felt like the students were running the school, and the teachers had little say in anything that happened. “I am hoping this helps draw a line in the sand,” Platic remarked with hope.
The comments were filled with other teachers praising Plastic for their courage to do what was right, even if it put their positions on the line. “This makes me very happy, and I hope more teachers follow suit. We are teachers, educators, not psychologists or social workers,” expressed a commenter. “All teachers and all schools should be doing this. Classrooms would be safer for all children if teachers had the ability to remove unruly children,” agreed a second user.
Of course, there were a good number of people criticizing Plastic, pointing out how they could lose their job as a teacher at the school. OP seemed rather unbothered. “I do not care. The admin does not support the teachers. I have 20 plus years experience,” they wrote in a reply. Tension between them and the admin is probably high, considering they said they didn’t bother informing them before kicking the two boys out.
Still, Plastic feels they did the right thing, not just for the school, but for themself as well. With other Reddit users’ encouragement and support, they feel empowered. “The parents are still in denial (of the kids I kicked out), but rest of kids are improving,” Plastic pointed out with hope. “I am emailing tons of parents about other lesser behavior so everyone shapes up.”
