Austin City Limits weekend brought the usual crowds, headliners, and late-night foot traffic to downtown Austin, Texas. But one clip filmed on a sidewalk just off the festival grounds has drawn far more attention than the lineup. During the festival, a man caught on camera repeatedly directed racist insults at a group of people he appeared to perceive as Hispanic.
According to a post on X by the account @LongTimeHistory, the video shows a man identified as Reid Rupp, owner of the Austin-based company JP Exteriors, confronting a group on a downtown Austin sidewalk during the second weekend of Austin City Limits.
The October 13 post described him as a “MAGA man ready to call ICE on Hispanic couple—at music festival in Austin, Texas.” Austin content creator Chase Kennedyy originally filmed it and posted it to Instagram.
The clip, filmed at night, shows a man in a green polo shirt and jeans standing among a mixed group of men and women.
According to the video, he says “I am racist” and “Go back to Mexico.” He also says, “The average IQ of you people is 70,” “We don’t want you here in my country,” and “You smell. Go back to your country. Go back to Mexico.”
Group members push back verbally, with lines such as “You’re not about to do nothing.” Some try to calm things down, while others film. No physical fighting is shown, though the tone stays tense, and the man also appears to reference calling ICE.
The confrontation took place outside the festival grounds, with the footage pointing to the 6th Street corridor.
Internet Reacts to Texas Man’s Remarks in Austin Video
The incident prompted criticism from viewers, with several focusing on the man’s hostility toward people he appeared to regard as Mexican or Hispanic. One commenter wrote, “That MAGA man-boy really needs to learn the history of Texas!”
Another criticized what they saw as entitlement, commenting, “Crazy the entitlement of people that never were willing to lay it on the line for our country but claim it so proudly as theirs.”
Others welcomed the fact that people around the man challenged his behavior. “It was cool to see white guys react like wtf is wrong with you. Hate should always be stood up to,” one viewer wrote.
Some commenters expressed broader concerns about the atmosphere surrounding such confrontations. One wrote, “If this is real and really happening among young people we are in big trouble. This country is in shambles.” Another described the behavior as “The Trump effect,” writing, “This phenomenon is commonly known as “The Trump effect,” ladies and gentlemen.”
One final commenter predicted that the video could have consequences for the man’s reputation, writing, “Tune in next week when this same racist POS is upset because no one wants to associate with him after a video that he insists does not reflect his true personality went viral.”
No police report or official statement about the incident had been released at the time.
