The latest version of Apple’s software, iOS 12, for its devices is now available for download! This was first introduced at WWDC earlier in 2018. And while its available for a broad range of Apple’s devices, it’s not applicable for all of them.
Apple has decided to go a bit of a different route with the iOS 12 update. Instead of focusing on improving the look, the app icons, and emojis that have a tendency to slow down the device rather than improve it, this new update will focus on performance. Its specific purpose is to make your iPhone, iPad or iPod work better. It promises to make things faster, with less load time for apps and a smoother interface. It will also streamline your notification experience. By tracking how often you are on your phone and what apps you use, it will group notifications together by an app to make them easier to manage and mute.
This doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of fun to be had. There will be new Animojis on the iOS 12, including custom Memoji’s you can have look like you. A group FaceTime capable of linking together 32 people will be available later this year. And some of the apps that are getting redesigns include iBooks, Socks, Voice Memos, and Apple News.
To get this update, go to the Settings app — General — Software Update — and there should be a prompt for the iOS 12. Below is a list of the supported devices for this new update. This should be particularly helpful for older devices that have begun to become sluggish.
