A man in Pennsylvania had his whole world rocked by a tragedy: his coworker suddenly passed away, leaving his family behind. He now believes everyone should reassess their priorities, telling hundreds of thousands on the internet to focus on their families.

Mike Bonitatibus shared his heartfelt thoughts on TikTok. He is a content creator who often posts on a variety of topics, including education and society. This time around, his personal clip went viral in a day. It garnered 791,200 views, 79,600 likes, and more than 2,100 comments.

The Pennsylvania man, visibly upset, revealed immediately that a coworker of his had passed away days before recording the clip. The coworker was married and the father of a five-year-old boy. According to Mike, the coworker had a poison ivy rash and, apparently, he opened the wound by scratching it.

“It spread from his leg to his hip to his face. He went to the doctor, and he got a steroid. Didn’t react well to the steroid, so he stopped taking it. He went home from work on Friday, told his wife that he needed to take a nap, and he lay down, and that was it,” Mike said.

Work-Life Balance

Speculation ran rampant among his loved ones, many believing the man, who was not named, passed away from sepsis. No official cause of death was unveiled by Mike. Instead, he focused on how the coworker’s loss impacted his job and the rest of his coworkers.

“We don’t even have time to grieve. Because when you work in sales, he had more customers and more accounts than any of us combined,” he added.

This means that Mike and the rest of his coworkers had to cover what the now-deceased man used to take care of on his own. He wasn’t blaming him, of course, but he still wondered what the man’s work-life balance was and reflected on the idea itself.

“I really hope that everyone recognizes that your balance should be favouring family. Big time,” the Pennsylvania man said. “[…] I am going to step up and do the best that I can. But at the end of the day, my family and my presence with my family are the most important.”

Mike summed up his thoughts in the video’s caption, which read, “Work doesn’t matter.”

Social Media Reactions

Many viewers shared their thoughts on Mike’s clip, most of them agreeing with the lesson he was trying to convey. One said, “I needed this. Thank you for kicking my butt into perspective.” Another one commented, “This is why I literally don’t care about work… It’s fake… You will just be replaced.”

Other viewers shared their own nightmare stories regarding work. One wrote, “My son was a stillborn. They wanted me at work the next day. That’s when I stopped caring about a job.” Another one added, “I had a coworker who lost his mom. Job only gave him 5 days of grievance. When he came back, you could hear him weep in his office every day after. These companies don’t care.”

The Pennsylvania man’s intention ultimately was for everyone to cherish their family and also appropriately grieve when tragedy strikes. By the looks of it, his video was a success.
