A Florida woman is catching internet backlash after she posted a video of how she was treating an in-house maid.
TikTok user Walkingmiracle18 (who goes by Blessed Blind Lady) posted the video of her spat with the maid on TikTok where viewers subsequently expressed that she was in the wrong.
In Blessed Blind Lady’s video, she is seen driving home after allegedly seeing the maid “just sitting on her phone while she is on the clock” from a camera system she has set up. She had recently hired an ‘aide’ to take care of her mother. “This is how we have to speak up for people who don’t want to help our loved ones.”
As soon as Blessed Blind Lady walks into her home, you can see the maid is indeed sitting on her phone. She immediately harasses the maid about her job, if she wants to work there or not, and complains she’s been on her phone for “like 20 minutes.”
“We hired you people for you guys to help my mom,” Blessed Blind Lady says, “not to just sit out on the phone.” She then leads the maid into her mother’s bedroom and points out all the chores that need to be done in a confrontational manner.
As she ends her video, she continues picking apart everything that the maid was supposedly paid to do. “People have to get it right with aides,” Blessed Blind Lady says in a hostile tone.
People online are unforgiving in the comment section
Surprisingly, many of Blessed Blind Lady’s commenters called her out for being the problem and argued she was mistreating the maid. “Aggressive for no reason,” one viewer wrote.
Among the top comments, a lady had shared her experience with caregivers, noting that they did their job keeping her nine-year-old grandson’s room and clothes clean. However, she added, “Never household chores. Learn to speak with respect to anyone 😳😳.”
Blessed Blind Lady fired back in the comments, “Not once did I disrespect her.” This drew fresh criticism from viewers in the thread. “Yes, you did,” argued a viewer, “The way you approached her was disrespectful.” Another commenter went further, “The moment she decided to press record, she wanted a problem.”
Others brought up the confusion Blessed Blind Lady caused when she referred to her maid as an “aide,” leading several people to correct her in what an aide’s job is. “You said you do home health aide etc… But home health aides are NOT maids!” one user wrote.
However, this didn’t stop people from calling her for her behavior and offered an explanation for the maid. “She was probably taking a break! She’s also human, she can be tired u know.”
Regardless if it’s a maid or an aide, people in Blessed Blind Lady’s TikTok video were fired up and continue to criticize her for her behavior. And as one commenter put it, labour laws also come into effect—the maid is entitled to several breaks.
