Some men in New York apparently have strong opinions about what an NYPD officer should be doing when he’s talking to a woman. A video of an officer chatting with a woman on a set of public steps has left several male bystanders looking less than impressed.
The clip was shared on X by @Raindropsmedia1, whose caption claims the men were upset after the officer exchanged numbers with the woman. “He’s supposed to be serving and protecting,” one man can be heard saying.
In the 18-second video, the uniformed officer stands close to a woman wearing a white top and blue leggings. She appears to show him something on her phone while several other officers stand nearby behind barriers.
Meanwhile, some male bystanders watch the interaction and voice their disapproval, with one questioning why the officer is chatting with a woman instead of doing his job.
There’s just one catch: the video doesn’t actually confirm that the two exchanged phone numbers. It shows them interacting, while the men watching seem convinced there’s something worth commenting on. A few of them look genuinely annoyed, which raises the question of why a stranger’s conversation is such a pressing concern.
Internet Reacts to Viral NYPD Officer Video in New York
The post drew a wave of replies on X. One commenter wrote, “he is serving, and he’s protecting her from yall.” Another said, “Dudes be thinking they own every woman they see like they have a shot.” A third added, “Let bro have his moment.”
Other commenters weighed in on the onlookers. One user wrote, “Mind your business while grown folk TALKING!” Another posted, “Nyc is full of cornballs now. Imagine men recording other men because they are talking to a woman.” A final commenter asked, “Why are they all standing there watching two people interact? That’s creepy behavior.”
The alleged number exchange remains unconfirmed, but the footage has certainly raised another question: why were so many people watching a conversation that had nothing to do with them?
