Trump-Backed Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sparks Backlash After Refusing to Vote for Republicans: ‘Good Riddance’

The kind of pivot that results in a whiplash

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, a longtime Donald Trump supporter who once styled himself as a Republican loyalist, is facing a political firestorm after revealing he refused to vote for two of his party’s nominees, including the Republican running to replace him. Instead, Miller chose the Democratic options, and now MAGA supporters are criticizing him.

Miller, who lost his Republican primary to Nate Sheets earlier this year, made the revelation during an appearance on MSNOW alongside Democratic agriculture commissioner nominee Clayton Tucker. The outgoing commissioner said he did not vote for Republican Gov. Greg Abbott or Sheets, but declined to disclose whether he supported their Democratic opponents.

“There’s two Republicans I cannot vote for,” Miller said. “I did not vote for our governor, Greg Abbott. He needs to go, and I did not vote for Nate Sheets.” Asked whether he voted for Tucker and Democratic gubernatorial nominee Gina Hinojosa instead, Miller responded, “That’s between me and my God, and it’s going to stay that way.”

The comments have fueled debate among Texas Republicans as the November election approaches, with Miller publicly criticizing the candidates selected by his own party despite maintaining that he remains a devoted Trump supporter. “I’m the biggest Trump supporter in Texas,” Miller said, describing himself as a “die-hard Trump man.”

People Are Questioning the Political Landscape in Texas

Miller has repeatedly appeared alongside Clayton Tucker, a former Texas director of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ Our Revolution organization, while praising the Democrat’s opposition to data center development. Although Miller has not formally endorsed Tucker, his increasingly public feud with Sheets has deepened divisions within the GOP.

Sheets, who won 52.7 percent of the Republican primary vote, accused Miller of trying to prevent scrutiny of the agriculture department, which the incumbent has led for nearly 12 years. “Sid Miller is the most corrupt figure in Texas government, and I consider his criticism a badge of honor,” Sheets wrote on X, adding that Miller had become a “traitor to his own party.”

The dispute has also drawn mixed reactions online, with some commenters criticizing Miller and others questioning whether he actually voted for a Democrat. “This lifelong grift is finally running on life support,” wrote an X commenter. Another commenter said it was “pretty incredible Sid Miller did that,” noting that Miller had been a MAGA supporter since the movement’s early days.

One MAGA X user also chimed in on the matter, criticizing Miller by writing, “Still [expletive] hurt over MAGA removing him and as anyone can now tell was the right call. Good riddance [expletive].” Meanwhile, another commenter praised the willingness to break party ranks, writing, “It takes [expletive] for any top person to admit to a vote. Interesting…”

As Sheets campaigns to succeed Miller, the feud has further fueled speculation about Texas Republican politics, raising questions about party loyalty and the growing divide between candidates and influential figures within their own ranks.
