A new poll indicates that Democrat Abdul El-Sayed is leading Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan’s Senate race. However, many Michigan residents are skeptical of these surveys, believing Rogers still has a strong chance of becoming a senator.
As reported by Click On Detroit, a poll conducted by The Glengariff Group, Inc. indicated that 51.4% of Michiganders intend to vote for El-Sayed, while only 45.1% are considering Rogers. Another 3.6% remain undecided. The poll’s margin of error is 4 percentage points, putting the two contenders fairly close.
The poll also measured how favorably voters viewed the candidates. Some 32.2% viewed Rogers favorably, while 49.2% viewed him unfavorably. For El-Sayed, 42.2% viewed him favorably, while 44.8% viewed him unfavorably. The survey was conducted by phone between Oct. 19 and Oct. 22, 2026, with 600 voters participating.
Michiganders Are Unsure of El-Sayed’s Victory
While liberal-leaning voters on r/Michigan were somewhat excited to see El-Sayed leading the race, many remained skeptical that he would win. One user wrote, “[Expletive] the polls, get out and vote!!!! Millions of people sat out on the last Presidential election, look what happened!”
Others pointed to polls from previous elections to explain why they were so skeptical: “The last time I heard this, he was ‘ahead by 15 points’ and he barely won. So unless this poll is predicting landslide territory, he’s probably in deep trouble.”
Another somewhat popular argument was that “Republicans consistently outperform polls in the midterms. If a poll is saying he has a 5 point lead, it actually means he’s behind or tied.”
One resident focused on the poll’s margin of error: “Still within the margin of polling error if you look at methodology. Polling is meaningless as we have seen in previous elections. Please vote. Vote early if you can.”
Overall, residents were skeptical of these results, especially because they had been burned before by getting excited too soon. One user summed up the overall sentiment of the thread: “Yeah, polls mean nothing anymore. Go vote!”
