A voter in Louisiana has become the subject of online ridicule after apparently expecting to find Donald Trump on the ballot during early voting for the 2026 midterm elections. The exchange has drawn criticism from people questioning how someone could confuse a midterm election with a presidential one.
The video was originally shared on TikTok by @okaytiny before being reshared on Reddit’s r/BlackPeopleofReddit. Text over the clip explains that a voter called over a poll worker after noticing that Trump’s name was missing from the ballot.
In the video, the voter asked why Trump was not listed. The poll worker explained that Trump was not running for anything in that election, so his name would not appear on the ballot.
The voter then appeared confused about what was happening. The poll worker tried to clarify the situation, explaining that it was early voting for the midterms, not a presidential election.
The person recording the interaction reacts with visible disbelief, covering their face with a hand while appearing to laugh at the exchange. The clip does not establish how the voter ultimately cast their ballot, despite commenters speculating about the voter’s choices.
Internet Reacts to Louisiana Early Voting Video
The clip prompted criticism from commenters who viewed the apparent confusion as a sign of how Trump’s political influence has shaped his supporters’ voting habits. One commenter wrote, “This is exactly what screwed us all!!! Drumpf brought out these type of people, the ones that normally wouldn’t vote in droves! If we make it out of this, I think IQ testing should be mandatory for voting.”
Another wrote, “Hope he walked out without voting.” A third replied, “No, he voted. Anyone with the R next to their name (regardless of their qualifications) got his vote, along with anyone without an “ethnic” name.”
Another wrote, “He’s also going around the country telling them to vote like he IS on the ballot and they’re half listening.” One person summed up their interpretation of the encounter by writing, “What you heard was True maga support; he want to vote for him, even if he’s not on the ballot!!!!!!! You can’t make this [expletive] up.”
Notably, President Donald Trump has asked voters to pretend he is on the ballot in this year’s midterms, including at the Republican convention in Dallas, where he said, “I’m asking you to pretend that I’m on the ballot.”
Louisiana voters cast more than 520,000 early ballots ahead of Election Day, according to WWL, citing the Louisiana Secretary of State’s office.
