New Jersey icon Martha Stewart walked onto Today in pristine white pants and left with hot chocolate running down her legs.
Craig Melvin managed to turn Friday’s Halloween cooking segment into chaos after accidentally spilling chocolate ganache all over Stewart’s reportedly $3,000 pants while she demonstrated how to decorate a cheesecake.
Making the disaster even funnier, Melvin was dressed as Stewart’s longtime friend Snoop Dogg for Today’s massive Halloween celebration.
Stewart immediately screamed when the chocolate hit her.
“Snoop!” she snapped.
Then came the line that made the entire mishap even more painful for Melvin.
“Real Snoop would never do this!”
Viewers had plenty to say after watching Stewart’s reaction.
“Martha is lowkey pissed,” one TikTok user joked.
Another imagined exactly what might have been going through the lifestyle mogul’s head: “Martha is like ‘these people are idiots.’”
“She’s stressed out,” another viewer added, while someone else joked that watching the desserts fall apart probably had Stewart “stressed the f out.”
Others thought she handled the disaster surprisingly well.
“Martha is such a good sport lmao,” one commenter wrote.
And another simply echoed Stewart’s own brutal assessment of Melvin’s Snoop Dogg impersonation: “Real Snoop would never do that.”
Stewart ultimately kept the demonstration moving, but she wasn’t about to let Melvin off easily.
She complained that the ganache was “so sloppy” before joking that she now had “burning legs of hot chocolate.”
Things became even more painful when Melvin realized exactly what he may have ruined.
“These are $3,000 pants,” he said.
Fortunately for him, Stewart appeared much less worried about the wardrobe disaster than he was.
“They’ll wash,” she assured him.
The chocolate even landed on one of Stewart’s shoes, giving Melvin yet another reason to apologize before the segment was over.
Craig Melvin’s Awkward Week Somehow Gets Worse
If Melvin thought spilling chocolate all over Martha Stewart was embarrassing, it came only days after another painfully awkward celebrity exchange on live television.
While interviewing Parker Posey earlier in the week, Melvin told the actress they needed to discuss “horror.”
Posey heard something completely different.
“I thought you called me a [expletive]!” she exclaimed.
A stunned Melvin quickly clarified that he said “horror,” even spelling the word out before admitting he hadn’t enunciated particularly well.
Things somehow became even more uncomfortable when Melvin asked Posey about an upcoming horror project only for the actress to reveal she was no longer involved.
“Okay, well, now it’s really awkward,” Melvin admitted.
Posey ultimately laughed off the misunderstanding, and Stewart appeared to take Friday’s chocolate catastrophe in equally good humor.
Still, after nearly insulting one celebrity and then covering another celebrity’s $3,000 white pants in chocolate within the same week, Melvin may be hoping his next few Today segments are considerably less eventful.
