That was a bold move

Michigan Democratic Congresswoman Haley Stevens, who narrowly lost the Democratic Senate primary to Abdul El-Sayed in August, is turning heads after endorsing Republican Mike Rogers just days before the November midterm elections.

In an X post, Stevens announced her support for Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers, prompting an outpouring of praise from conservative figures and voters who welcome the apparent break with party loyalty. The endorsement came after tensions between Stevens and El-Sayed had already been growing. Stevens recently criticized El-Sayed over his response to an outside group’s ad linking U.S. support for Israel to rising grocery prices. El-Sayed denied having anything to do with the ad and said he disagreed with its message. Their disagreement eventually led to Stevens being asked to stay away from his campaign events.

The announcement was brief, but its political implications could be significant in a state where competitive elections frequently attract national attention. Stevens said El-Sayed had made it clear that she was ‘no longer welcome in his campaign’ and should stay away, which she cited when announcing her decision to endorse Rogers.

Stevens has represented Michigan in the US House of Representatives as a Democrat, making her state endorsement of a Republican Senate candidate especially noteworthy. Rogers, a former Republican congressman, has also built his political career in Michigan, giving the apparent endorsement an added dimension beyond the usual exchanges between opposing parties.

In the video, Haley Stevens defends her decision through various means. At one point, she talks about education being on the ballot, stating, “Our students see what our children see and who we are as Michiganders is not hate and it is not what we are getting out from our Democratic nominee right now.” She then goes on to describe her love for the state of Michigan.

The timing has added to the attention surrounding the announcement, with Election Day scheduled for November 3 and Stevens making the endorsement just two days before Michigan voters choose between Rogers and El-Sayed.

Whatever the reasoning, the response from the prominent conservative accounts on X was immediate, with several treating the statement as a welcome example of political independence. Others went further, describing Stevens as a patriot and suggesting that her decision demonstrated the kind of integrity they believe is missing from American politics.

Comments and Reactions to Haley Stevens’ Endorsement of Mike Rogers

The surprise was evident in the replies, where conservative commentator Eric Daugherty reacted with, “Wow. She just went full patriot.” Another user even thanked Stevens by saying, “Thank you for putting country over party.“

Republican Representative Anna Paulina Lina also praised Stevens in the comments, writing, “I respect you for this. Well done. I know this was not easy for you. You did the right thing.” Conservative Laura Loomer was also in the comments, having written, “Thank you, Haley! This was the right decision.“

The endorsement also drew criticism from Democrats. Stevens’ longtime chief of staff resigned following her announcement, while Michigan Democratic officials criticized her decision to back Rogers after she had previously supported the Democratic ticket.

As the topic continues to go viral on X, more and more users are leaving their opinions in the post’s comments section.
