New York Gov. Kathy Hochul faced criticism after urging voters to stand against Donald Trump on Election Day. She promised to lower costs, improve public safety, and keep the state moving forward. However, critics challenged her record on affordability and questioned her campaign’s focus on Trump. Some called for her retirement instead of another term.

In her Election Day message, Hochul urged New Yorkers to vote and continue supporting her vision for the state. “From Buffalo to Brooklyn, let’s send a resounding message,” she declared. She then warned against extremists, saying, “We will not let mega-extremists take us backward.”

The governor also highlighted her campaign’s priorities, including lowering costs, protecting communities, and opposing Trump. She urged residents to help determine New York’s direction through their votes.

Before closing, Hochul reminded New Yorkers that polls would remain open until 9 p.m. She directed voters to IWillVote.com to locate their polling sites and ended with another appeal: “Go vote!”

Hochul’s final campaign appeal drew divided reactions, with critics questioning her record and supporters defending her leadership.

One critic challenged her bid for another term, writing, “You should probably run toward retirement.” Another questioned her campaign’s focus on Trump, asking, “Can’t you talk policy. Your whole strategy is he’s a Trump Man.”

Her description of political opponents also drew objections. One response stated, “Stop calling anyone who opposes you an extremist.”

Meanwhile, another commenter raised concerns about affordability, writing, “I’m more concerned about my utility bill than TDS.”

However, supporters offered a different assessment of her record. One wrote, “Let’s do this Hochy! thanks for lowering utility bills, gas prices and groceries. Thanks for keeping NY safe.”

Another questioned whether the backlash translated into support for her Republican opponent, stating, “Funny to see these comments when not one of them supports Blakeman!”

The election will ultimately determine whether Hochul secures another term as New York governor. Polls close at 9 p.m.
