Creed was a surprisingly strong movie in 2015, winning plenty of acclaim for everyone involved, especially star Michael B. Jordan and director Ryan Coogler. The two are back at it again (although this time, Coogler gets a producer credit rather than a director credit) in Creed 2, and there’s a brand new trailer that fans of Jordan are sure to enjoy. Check it out:
Yes, that is just a two and a half minute video of Jordan being as badass as possible. Glad you asked.
Creed 2 picks up right where the first film left off, with Jordan’s Adonis Creed (son of Apollo Creed from the original Rocky series) training with Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) for his next big fight: a showdown with Viktor Drago (Florian Munteanu). If the name Drago sounds familiar, that’s because Viktor’s father Ivan (Dolph Lundgren, reprising his role from Rocky 4) killed Adonis’s father in the ring before being bested in the ring by Rocky.
Phew. That’s a lot of connections.
Creed 2 is yet another partnership for Jordan and Coogler, who also worked together in 2018’s Black Panther. However, with Coogler leaving the director’s seat, a relatively unknown commodity has stepped in to fill his rather large shoes: Steven Caple Jr. He has only one feature film to his credit – 2016’s The Land. He does have a lot of short film and TV work under his belt, however, so hopefully Creed 2 is in good hands.
Rocky 4 is a pretty awesome film, even though it is completely ridiculous. It’s nice to see Creed 2 leaning into the history of the franchise, and we hope it can find that spark that made the first Creed film so successful. We will be able to find out soon – Creed 2 releases on November 21, 2018. Stay tuned for more information on the film as it becomes available.
