Over 24 hours ahead of its intended release, the new teaser trailer for Hellboy has been leaked over at the official Hellboy Twitter.

Originally intended for a Thursday announcement, a scheduled tweet found itself a little ahead of its intended arrival. The two and a half minute trailer showcases some of the movies presumable best comedy and action scenes.

This new trailer also unveiled what star actors would play a role with David Harbour being cast as Hellboy himself. The award-winning actor has appeared in many films and TV shows but is arguably best known for his portrayal of police chief Jim Hopper in Stranger Things.

Other significant castings include Ian McShane as Trevor Bruttenholm, Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan and Mila Jovovich as the film’s primary antagonist, The Blood Queen.

The initial response from many series fans is concern over the focus on delivering a comedic tale opposed to a more serious story like its predecessors. The shift in style seems to be an attempt to replicate recent Marvel films that have seen great success by producing light-hearted, comedic action films.

Both Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army offered a darker tale with horror undertones. This latest reboot appears to abandon that. Some may argue this latest addition is not showing respect to the previous titles in the series. Others will surely view this as a fair attempt at modernizing a decade old franchise.

Either way, there’s no doubting the intrigue surrounding where director Neil Marshall will choose to take the series compared to that of Hellboy 1 and 2’s director, Guillermo del Toro. Del Toro’s envisionment of Hellboy is iconic. It will be difficult for Lionsgate and Marshall to move the series away from that without inevitable doubters peeking their heads. It’s up to them to prove their critics wrong.

You can go watch Hellboy once it releases in cinemas April 12th, 2019.
