Recently, Nintendo had an Indie Showcase showing some new indie games releasing to the Nintendo Switch. The platform announced 9 games that are releasing sometime in 2019. Some of these games may already be out now.
Nintendo started with a trailer for Chucklefish’s new game Wargroove. Wargroove is a turn-based strategy game with a full story campaign, along with a multiplayer mode. Wargroove is available on February 1st. Also by Chucklefish (and Hidden Layer Games), is a game called Inmost. Choosing from three characters, Inmost looks to be a survival game but it also has some puzzle elements (the release date is said to be sometime in 2019). For those of you who don’t know, Chucklefish is the publisher of the famous indie game Stardew Valley.
Double Kick Heroes was announced from Plug In Digital. This game has a strong heavy metal aesthetic, composed of over 30 original songs. This has licensed songs by the band Gojira, and other guests. Double Kick Heroes releases sometime in the Summer.
Puzzle-game When Ski Lifts Go Wrong is available now. This is a building game made by Curve Digital where you help ski lift passengers arrive at their destination safely by solving difficult puzzles.
Another game announced was a one by Humble Bundle; Forager, which seems like a dungeon crawler game. This game was not shown or discussed that much. Forager is said to be coming soon.
Nintendo revealed that Goat Simulator: The Goaty Collection is out now on the Switch. Also currently on the Switch is Unruly Heroes, a 2D platforming game made by some of the devs that made the Rayman games.
Two of the last games shown was Crosscode (a 2D 16-bit game with a fast-paced combat system) and Steam World Quest (a turn-based battle game). Both of these will come out later this year.
That’s about all that was shown in the Nintendo Showcase. The indie lineup on the Switch is seeming pretty strong and I can’t wait to see what Nintendo has in store for us going forward.
