Today, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime announced that he is retiring from the company in April. The longtime Nintendo boss put out this video, thanking the fans for their support over the years:

Nintendo fans, Reggie has a message for all of you. Please take a look. pic.twitter.com/EAhaEl5oEJ

This is a total class act from a spokesperson who has been with Nintendo for over a decade. He started with Nintendo in 2003 as an executive VP of sales and marketing. In 2004, Reggie Fils-Aime famously hopped up on stage at E3 and said: “My name is Reggie. I’m about kickin’ ass, I’m about takin’ names, and we’re about makin’ games.”. Since then, Fils-Aime has been one of the most prominent and quotable figureheads of the gaming community. He was promoted to President and COO in 2006 and oversaw consoles such as the Wii, Wii U, 3Ds, and the highly-successful Nintendo Switch.

On April 15th, Reggie Fils-Aime will officially step down as Nintendo of America’s President and Doug Bowser will take his place. Bowser previously worked at EA and joined Nintendo in 2015. Currently, he is the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Nintendo of America. As Reggie said in the video, it’s appropriate for a guy named Bowser to be the new head of Nintendo.

In a news release, Fils-Aime said:

“Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever,”

“It’s a part that is filled with gratitude — for the incredibly talented people I’ve worked with, for the opportunity to represent such a wonderful brand, and most of all, to feel like a member of the world’s most positive and enduring gamer community. As I look forward to departing in both good health and good humor, this is not ‘game over’ for me, but instead ‘leveling up’ to more time with my wife, family and friends.”
