Disney’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set to open in both parks sooner than previously announced. It will open at Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida on August 29th, 2019. And it will open at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California on May 31st, 2019. This was announced during Disney’s annual shareholder meeting in St Louis, MO by CEO Bob Iger.
However, this decision comes with a trade-off. It will only be opening one of its two marquee attractions this early. Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run will be ready on opening day. This ride lets fans go in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. But the second marquee attraction, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, which is a much longer ride, won’t open until later in 2019.

It has been announced that the park will require a separate, no-cost reservation. A post on Disney Parks blog elaborates:
Guests planning to visit Star Wars: Galaxyโs Edge at Disneyland Park between May 21 and June 23, 2019 will need valid theme park admission and will be required to make a no-cost reservation, subject to availability, to access the land. Information on how to make a reservation will be available at a later date on Disneylan.com and the Disney Parks Blog. Guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels during these dates will receive a designated reservation to access Star Wars: Galaxyโs Edge during their stay (one reservation per registered guest); valid theme park admission is required.
A reservation will not be offered or required to experience Star Wars: Galaxyโs Edge at the Walt Disney World Resort. And you should know that valid theme park admission to Disneyโs Hollywood studios is required to visit Star Wars: Galaxyโs Edge after its opening on August 29, 2019. Capacity is limited.โ
