Sandler, arguably one of the biggest stars to emerge from a stint on SNL, has not been back in a significant way since leaving the show 25 years ago. It was during Sandlers five-year run that the oddball comedian rose to extraordinary levels of popularity among viewers. His iconic characters such as Opera Man, Canteen Boy, and Carlo Pepper boy made him a household name.
After leaving SNL in 1995, Sandler made huge box office waves with movies such as Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, The Water Boy, and Big Daddy. During the mid to late ’90s, Sandler was comedic box office gold. Although 50 First Dates and Click were modest hits, Sandler has never really recaptured the magic of his earlier career. With the controversy surrounding The Rediculous 6 and lukewarm receptions to his other Netflix original movies, Sandler is not the force he once was.
No matter who it is, or where their career has taken them, fans of Saturday Night Live love it when old favorites return. We adore beloved characters popping up and to see long-running jokes make a comeback. Perhaps it’s a nostalgia thing, or maybe it’s just that easy to let an old friend back into our hearts.
Adam Sandler is one of those comedians who people either love or hate. One can’t deny he has made an indelible impact on pop culture. Along with SNL co-stars Chris Farley, Mike Meyers, and David Spade, we all quote Sandler ‘s most famous characters to this day.
It’s anyone’s guess who will show up to join Sandler on stage but here’s hoping we at least get a new version of the Hanukkah Song or any song for that matter. Adam Sandler returns to 30 Rockefeller on May 4th and will be joined by musical guest Shawn Mendes.
