Now here’s something that was totally unexpected. Sue Richards from the Fantastic Four – otherwise known as the Invisible Woman – is getting her own solo comic book.

Appropriately titled Invisible Woman, the limited series was recently announced on Marvel’s website. The first issue lands this coming July and features the “matriarch” of the Fantastic Four in a prequel adventure. Story-wise, it has Sue ‘Storm’ Richards on an espionage mission for S.H.I.E.L.D. Where the timeline is concerned, it takes place shortly after she helped set up her famous superhero team with Reed Richards, Ben Grimm, and Johnny Storm.

Writer Mark Waid teams up with artist @MattiaIulis for Sue Storm's first solo comic series! "Invisible Woman" hits comic shelves this July: https://t.co/TgLrDvbgFj

In the website’s announcement, Marvel’s Executive Editor Tom Breevort teased the upcoming Fantastic Four spin-off.

In over fifty years, she’s never had her own title (or maybe she did and you just didn’t see it). Waid and De Iulis will be delving into what Sue Richards does—and even who she is—on her own time, apart from her famous family! It’s sure to surprise some—as will a few of the gestures-players who’ll be passing through the story!

The ‘Waid’ and ‘De Iulis’ mentioned are none other than that of Mark Waid and Mattia De Iulis.

Mark Waid is a veteran writer in the industry who is well-regarded for rebooting Superman’s origin story with Superman: Birthright. He’s no stranger to the Fantastic Four either, whose run on the FF (starting in 2002) alongside artist Mike Wieringo was lauded by fans and critics alike.

Meanwhile, Mattia De Iulis is perhaps most well-known for penciling, inking, and coloring Marvel’s Jessica Jones comic.

But while fans will be seeing more of Sue Richards in her solo comic, don’t expect to see her or the rest of the Fantastic Four on the silver screen anytime soon. The Russo brothers – who are directing Avengers: Endgame – have warned fans they have not included the characters in their new film. This, despite Disney having recently retrieved the rights to use them.
