MGM and Warner Bro. studios have confirmed a new sequel to Tomb Raider (courtesy of Deadline). Writer Amy Jump will be working on the current screenplay for the sequel to Tomb Raider. She has been known for her collaboration with director Ben Wheatly, who directed High Rise and Free Fire. Also, it seemed fitting that Alicia Vikander will be reprising her role as Lara Croft in the sequel to Tomb Raider.

Although no confirmation has been made on who will be directing the sequel, though, the possibility of Roar Uthaug – director of the previous film – could be a candidate. Or Warner Bros. and MGM could dig down deeper and hire a more well-known director like Michael Bay or Peter Jackson. Let’s just hope Uwe Boll isn’t a candidate.

Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider has been around since the 1990s as a video game protagonist who traveled the world and explored unknown tomb locations (hence the name, Tomb Raider). Then the franchised evolved into something bigger. After two mediocre films with Angelia Jolie’s Tomb Raider movies, the reboot was supposed to gain fans back after the widely successful trilogy of the Tomb Raider, Rise of Tomb Raider, and Shadow of Tomb Raider games.

Alicia Vikander worked on all of her stunts by herself and went through intensive training to gain the agility and realism of her character. After somewhat fair reviews, the movie wasn’t looking to make much progress for a sequel. Tomb Raider only made $58 million, domestically, in the box-office and the budget was $90 million. With some miraculous headway, Tomb Raider did phenomenally on an international level raking in $216 million.

No release date or title of Tomb Raider’s new movie has been announced yet. What are you’re thoughts on the Amy Jump being the new screenplay writer? Do you think it was necessary to make a sequel to Tomb Raider? Write any comments below.
