World War Z is a 4-player co-op zombie shooter in the same vein as the critically-acclaimed Left 4 Dead series. With no Left 4 Dead 3 anywhere in sight and other zombie genre titles veering away from the L4D formula, it opened the door for Saber Interactive’s World War Z to thrive. And that’s exactly what happened.
In just one month since its release, Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Home Interactive have announced that World War Z has sold almost 2 million copies. Focus Home Interactive has posted an Accolades trailer to celebrate this monumental achievement. You can see the Accolades trailer down below:
Along with the console sales on PS4 and Xbox One, WWZ also sold well as an exclusive to the Epic Games Store on PC. The game sold 250,000 copies on the Epic Store in its first week. Josh Austin, SVP, WW Licensing and Interactive at Paramount Pictures had this to say about the game’s early success (via a blog post):
“World War Z has fast become one of our most successful interactive games to date. It’s a testament to both the incredible co-op action experience that Saber Interactive and Focus Home Interactive have crafted, as well as the strong appeal of our hit franchise with fans across the globe,”
We here at The Nerd Stash gave World War Z 4 out of 5 stars, stating:
“World War Z takes what made Left 4 Dead so beloved and builds off it in their own way. Although the gameplay is fantastic, the customization gives you another reason to replay these 4 episodes over and over again. I applaud Saber Interactive for this exceptional Swarm Engine as it most certainly gave the gameplay a huge boost. This is the first game since the original Left 4 Dead to capture that “pure entertainment” feeling. Turn your brain off, chill out, kill some zombies with your friends, rinse and repeat. It certainly has a few problems that can’t be ignored but, at its $40 price point, World War Z is definitely worth considering.”
World War Z is available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC (via the Epic Games Store).
