Oxonmoot, the annual gathering hosted by The Tolkien Society, is now open for registration. This event will bring in well over 200 fans, scholars, and society members from around the world in a three-day event at St. Antony’s College.

Taking place close to both Bilbo and Frodo’s birthdays, which are September 22nd, the Oxonmoot will last from September 13th through the 15th of 2019. It’s been held annually since 1974 and is a must-attend for fans of the author of The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and the Silmarillion. There are multiple events to look forward to, including talks, quizzes, lectures, and workshops for the more studious fans of Middle-Earth. For the more creative types, there are also events for singing, slideshows, costuming, and gaming. All this will end Sunday morning with a visit to Tolkien’s gravesite.

This event will take place at the University of Oxford, a beautiful setting with gardens and many architectural styles. It’s also just a short walk from the heart of the city for adventurous fans who want to roam about. For members of the Tolkien Society, full registration for all three days is ยฃ45. One-Day registration is ยฃ30. For non-members, it is only ยฃ5 more. There is also an early bird discount of ยฃ5 up until the end of July. Registrations are non-refundable.

There is an option to stay at the college overnight at an additional cost. Breakfast is available at only ยฃ7. On that first Friday, September 13th, there is a three-course sit-down dinner with both a vegetarian and a non-vegetarian menu at an additional cost. But lunch on that Saturday is provided as part of the registration fee. For those interested in the full-course dinner, they will find a menu straight from Middle-Earth, offering wild mushroom frittata, lamb with beurre noisette and potatoes, and even an English strawberry and soft cheese tart for dessert.

Information on how to book and where to go for questions is available on The Tolkien Society’s website.
