Sometimes, getting a job is a real challenge. It’s not even about having all the qualifications, like having a college major anymore, because that doesn’t ensure you get a good job. Or having a certain amount of experience, because younger people always have a hard time getting a job in their field. Age is also a factor, and even though there are laws to protect you, that doesn’t stop hiring managers. For example, in a Reddit case in Florida, a Dunkin Donuts manager used the excuse not to hire a candidate because of their age, which is clearly discrimination.
Redditor Nicklelips shared their case on r/legaladvice, hoping for help on a possible case. Nicklelips said they went for an interview at a Dunkin Donuts in Florida and then received a text message from the manager denying them the job because, apparently, OP is “too old,” which is the only reason it could be labeled age discrimination. But that was not the only thing, as the manager still added that “hiring older people never works out.” The most outrageous thing is that OP explained that they are 53 years old. Maybe in the past, many would think that a 50-year-old is a very old person. Nowadays, someone of that age is still very productive, and many people of that age are still working for several years to come.
In this outrageous case, many users shared their opinions, such as:
Over 40 is age protected as “older worker”

Rather than making others focus on the legal case or other ways to help OP with their case, this user made several redditors even more indignant since they felt very old with the comment.
Seriously, in my late 30s now thinking wtf?!

Fortunately, another user noticed the minor detail that the OP said the manager’s rejection came in the form of a text message. So, OP already has at least one excellent piece of evidence to help them.
The text will prove your case.

This could be very useful for the OP to sue the manager for discrimination and at least get a little money to pay for the damages while he finds another job or stays at that specific location. Luckily, some laws protect the interests of people like OP or very young workers, so hopefully, the law will give a fair punishment to the manager, and OP will get a stable job very soon.
