A New Dead Space Could be Announced Next Month at EA Play Live 2021
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information.

Electronic Arts might be gearing up for something big in next month’s EA Play Live 2021 digital showcase. According to a number of media sources, EA will be announcing a revival of a well-known IP at the July 22 event, and it could be a new Dead Space title.

First up, VentureBeat writer Jeff Grubb on the GamesBeat Decides podcast (via Video Games Chronicle) said that EA Motive Studios is working on “an established IP” revival and it will be shown publicly for the first time next month. That particular info tallies up with the rumors that Eurogamer has heard. Meanwhile, Gematsu’s sources said that one of the projects currently being worked on by Motive Studios could be a new Dead Space game. Instead of being a sequel to the trilogy or a spin-off, the anonymous sources said that this new game is going to be a “reimagining” of the franchise.

EA Motive Studios is the developer behind Star Wars: Squadrons. The Montreal-based company also co-developed Star Wars Battlefront II along with DICE and Criterion Games. Back in October, Motive Studios general manager Patrick Klaus wrote in a blog post that the developer team is busy working on several unannounced projects aside from Star Wars: Squadrons.

In addition to Star Wars: Squadrons, we’re also working on several unannounced projects. Innovation is tough, but it’s also exciting and energizing. With our new mission, we’re trying a lot of things and testing many ideas which you can’t get attached to, as iteration and experimentation are healthy and a key to finding something great. The team is super talented and we’re all striving to make aspirational games that push the boundaries of what players expect now and into the future.”

With the success of Resident Evil REmakes and Village, EA might want to get into the horror genre once more with a new Dead Space. Whether or not the rumor is true though, we’ll just have to wait until EA Play Live 2021 event next month… or maybe faster if the trailer gets leaked somehow. This industry is particularly good at that.
