The walls between houses and apartments are becoming increasingly thin, barely strong enough to prevent them from collapsing. However, when companies attempt to cut costs, it often creates more conflicts between neighbors. For example, this person in Oregon responds pettily to his upstairs neighbor making too much noise, but their way of fighting back is with more noise. Understandably, we all make noise just by living in a place; it’s part of life. Yet, there are times and noise levels that we should all be aware of.
Redditor notfurlong69 shared on r/Apartmentliving a creative way to get a little revenge on those annoying and noisy neighbors. It’s not that the OP wants to be a jerk, but they commented that they haven’t been able to sleep for months. The reason is that the noise from their neighbor’s apartment wakes them up between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. Since this is a frequent occurrence, OP found the pettiest way to teach the people upstairs a lesson. What this person in Oregon did was build a “Jenga tower” with boxes to place a speaker as close as possible to their ceiling, or the neighbor’s floor, to counteract their noise.
In addition, OP clarified that he bought that large speaker for $125, most likely specifically for this occasion. In the post, OP also explains that they are not so heartless and do not activate the speaker if they hear normal noise. However, when there is considerable noise beyond someone walking, they do not hesitate to blast songs by Taylor Swift, Mastodon, Slayer, deadmau5, BMTH, and many more. This is a way to control the noise in the apartment and override the noise from the neighbors. Although now the neighbors are stomping their feet on purpose.
Fortunately, Reddit users came up with other productive ideas to solve the problem. Like MomLovesMeBest, who wrote ‘Don’t forget to get a massage gun and accidentally massage the ceiling!’.
This is a problem that goes beyond neighbors making noise. As Laylasita explained, when they wrote ‘ALL APARTMENTS are like this now. They only have wood between floors, unlike the old days when it was concrete. If you move, move into a townhouse or a duplex, or be on the top floor. I have been on both the top floor and the bottom floor, and I promise all I did was walk around and would get yelled at.’
OP has nine months until their lease ends, but the neighbors are now desperate and have even tried to assault them. Let’s hope this has a more peaceful solution in the future.
