Homecoming is often a big deal for high schoolers, which is why one Michigan dad wanted everything to be perfect for his 16-year-old daughter. She wanted a bold look: deep blue hair with black raccoon stripes in her bangs. So the two went to a well-reviewed hair salon hoping to get the color she wanted, but when they arrived, things didn’t start off well. And by the time they left, both the father and daughter were devastated; the stylist had botched the job.
“From the get go I should have ran,” wrote Reddit user Dustirau, the girl’s father. He recalled that the salon’s receptionist was rather cold to his daughter, who, being autistic, was quite rowdy upon entering. “Maybe you guys shouldn’t be here, because it doesn’t seem like she wants to be here,” allegedly said the man behind the counter. Things only got worse from there.
Even though the hairstylist said she understood the assignment, she messed up, badly. Dustirau said he was quoted for three hours, but the appointment turned into a nearly 6-hour stay until midnight, when the daughter’s hair was finished. Unfortunately, it wasn’t what the daughter wanted, and OP claims the salon employee refused to take responsibility or offer a discount as compensation.
Countless Redditors in the comments claiming to work in the hair styling industry collectively agreed that the worker did not do her job correctly. Even though plenty of people agreed that the daughter’s hair didn’t look that bad, it was far from the promised result. “Jesus Christ if I was close to you I’d fix it for free. This is unacceptable,” exclaimed a user.
“A salon doing this is insane and they should be refunded,” demanded another. “It did not have to be like this, they just had to do it right, and they did not,” expressed a third. Others joined in, urging Dustirau not to let his daughter accept this treatment from the hair salon, especially with homecoming soon coming up. Fortunately, this story has a happy ending.
The Salon’s Owner Ended Up Offering to Fix the Daughter’s Hair for Free
Once the dad confronted the owner about the botched hair dyeing, he apparently “profusely apologized” and offered to redo everything for free, as well as compensate for the trouble. Dustirau also thanked Reddit for all the kind words of encouragement, as both he and his daughter read through the comments and didn’t feel so bad afterward, reading how people claimed they still loved her look.
Dustirau reveals quite the plot twist about the apologetic owner, though: “Here’s the twist, receptionist was the owner…” In other words, the man behind the counter, who initially hinted the daughter should leave, was the one who offered to fix everything at no cost. That’s quite the positive turn of events, for sure.
