The tipping culture is getting out of hand. Indeed, companies do not pay their workers enough in most cases. However, workers should not demand that customers pay the remaining portion of their salary. Regardless, this waiter at a restaurant in California crossed the line by stealing an extra tip from a customer. It’s one thing to ask for a tip and another to steal it, and that’s a crime, no matter how small the amount.
Redditor Rae_Kendell99 shared a photo of a receipt on r/EndTipping. It may seem overkill to many, but now it’s a great idea. Because it is precisely with that photo that OP proved how a waiter at Hind Bar & Restaurant in West Hollywood, California, tried to steal more money for his tip. It all started when OP and a friend went to the restaurant, and according to OP, the service wasn’t the best from the start. This was because there was no hostess, and no one came to assign them a table or acknowledge them until after 10 minutes. However, OP said that the service and food were fine, so they decided to give the waiter a $5 tip. Even though OP is not someone who usually tips. Yet, OP took the picture of the receipt, which shows the total bill and the exact tip amount.
A few days later, OP checked their credit card statement and realized the charge at the restaurant was $10 more. OP described how they think the waiter believed they deserved a bigger tip and took it. OP’s theory is based on the fact that it would be very difficult to make a typo on the 3×3 POS keyboard in that restaurant. Besides, OP immediately called the owner to resolve the issue, and fortunately, the owner refunded the overcharge. The owner apologized several times while explaining that this was the first time they had had a problem like this. However, neither OP nor other Redditors believe that this is an isolated case.
‘Omg! Glad you caught it. Like you said, who knows how long it’s been going on? ๐ฑ’ said Rypien_37.
A huge change in wages is needed for all workers across all areas. But while that is happening, and even afterwards, it seems like an incredible option to take photos of receipts, because you never know when you might need them. It doesn’t matter if it’s a receipt for you alone or for you and friends; you never know when you’ll need it.
