Sony and Activision recently announced that they will be releasing a Ghostbusters game, to be available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC gamers.
The video game will take place after the events in the upcoming movie, and will focus on RPG gameplay of a rookie team. Apparently, players will not be able to interact with any of the movie characters from the franchise, as “the now-famous Ghostbusters are off stopping high-profile poltergeists,” according to Scott Lowe, communications manager for Activision.
Players will be capturing ghosts from a third-person perspective, and can cooperate with up to four people locally. Each playable character is said to have their own personality and individual advantages to building up their team. Perhaps this means that there will be changeable classes as well. It appears to have a sort of Diablo feel to the way the camera moves during gameplay, although the trailer does not show much. It does show off a little bit of the game, including one of the most recognizable characters from the series, “Slimer.”

Ghostbusters‘ new game will be released at the same time as the movie, on July 12. The developer appears to be intending this game to stand on its own in the franchise since it does not feature any known characters or events from the movies. It certainly does not look like the typical video game release that tends to come after a movie premiere. Here’s to hoping that Ghostbusters will bring fans an enjoyable and unique experience.
