Actress Sandra Bullock has starred in countless films over the past few decades. From comedies like Miss Congeniality to dramas like The Blind Side and now darker, more profound work in her recent hit movies with Netflix, the actress has always shown us her versatility in playing different roles. So it’s crazy to think it was only ten years ago after The Heat when she vowed she would never make a sequel again. The Netflix queen of recent years, Sandra Bullock, spoke with costar Daniel Radcliffe about giving up her ban on movie sequels in an interview for her latest upcoming movie where Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum star in The Lost City.
In 2013, Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy starred together in a buddy cop action comedy, otherwise known as The Heat! Many fans loved the film, especially with box office evidence of The Heat grossing about $230 million internationally. Besides the funny movie The Heat, 2013 was a big year for actress Sandra Bullock as she was making her rounds during award show season for the dramatic space film Gravity. During her interviews at that time, Bullock was asked countless times by the press if she would ever do a “Heat” sequel. At the time, Sandra Bullock made it known there would NOT be a “Heat” sequel as the actress went on to say, “I’ve done two sequels. They were horrible. What Melissa and I had was beautiful.”
At the SXSW Film Festival, Sandra Bullock spoke to Variety about her “no sequel” rule. Bullock went on to say,
“I had a ‘no sequel’ rule when I didn’t have the benefit of fighting for what I really wanted. I feel like, in my old age, I’m learning to fight for the things that I think would be best on screen — and I don’t care who comes away from the meeting angry,”
After two ‘horrible’ sequels (Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous and Speed 2), it’s understandable why actress Sandra Bullock doesn’t like to touch her classics anymore. It wasn’t until working with a fellow producing partner for The Lost City, Liza Chasin, that Bullock has started to shift her point of view. Sandra went on to surprisingly say that she would be open to a “Lost City” sequel, only if the script is ‘on point.’ Until then, we can see Sandra Bullock rock any upcoming Netflix movies she has, especially as she has exclaimed before that she loves working with them.
The upcoming Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum movie The Lost City releases in theaters nationwide on March 19th, 2022.
