When Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler says his life has been all sex, drugs, and rock and roll, he isn’t kidding. The Dream On singer celebrated his 77th birthday on March 26, admitting it has been a wild and crazy ride. He admits that he’s been through a lot, and, amazingly, Steven has managed to survive numerous scandals and decades of drug abuse along the way.
In August 2024, the legendary rock band Aerosmith announced its retirement from touring one year after lead singer Steven Tyler fractured his larynx in 2023. The band admitted that though they were devastated, it was a necessary decision made by a band of brothers.
One year before his injury, Steven Tyler was forced to check himself into rehab for help with a pain pill addiction following a foot injury. Steven admits that the 2022 rehab stint was only one of many attempts to get clean throughout several decades.
According to Radar Online, Tyler recently admitted that looking back throughout his life, he estimates that he spent $6 million on his cocaine addiction alone. Cocaine was not his only demon. Steven recalls that he would wake up around 4 am, drop a hit of acid, go back to sleep, and wake up later, still high. It was a never-ending cycle.
However, cocaine and acid weren’t his only substance abuse problems. He also reveals abusing alcohol, heroin, and meth. In 1988, Steven Tyler’s substance abuse problem was so bad that his bandmates coaxed him into his first rehab stint.
Steven Tyler’s Fondness For Young Girls Lands Him In Hot Water
The singer’s drug use continued, and during the 80s, Tyler’s drug use escalated to an even more dangerous level. Steven claims that during that time, it was so out of control that he couldn’t get high enough.
Oftentimes, Tyler revealed, he would be borderline comatose from the sheer amount of substances he had used during the day. He claimed that management would be worried sick because he would be due on stage to perform in front of tens of thousands of people. However, every time, he would get his energy up as he went on stage.
Ultimately, Steven continued to struggle with sobriety and fell off the wagon several times, returning to rehab in 1994, 2006, 2009, and most recently in 2022. He finally came to terms with how his life was going to turn out eventually. Once again, he confessed to needing help, realizing his drug use would lead to “nothing but jail, insanity, or death.”
Drugs and booze were not Steven Tyler’s only issues over the years. The rocker also admits that his fondness for young girls also got him in hot water with the law. Tyler says he was hit with several lawsuits dating back to the 70s.
Steven Tyler’s sexual assault and alleged rape suits failed to reach Diddy’s level. However, fans find his alleged crimes are just no less shocking or creepy. Many admit to turning away from the singer and the band altogether.
