As you may or may not know, Austin has been slowly but steadily positioning itself as one of the cities in the country with the worst drivers. If you don’t believe us, someone recently recorded a vehicle dangerously driving across the highway, almost causing an accident. Since the one who recorded is a concerned citizen in Austin, they have urged other drivers to consider getting a dash cam for Christmas instead of whatever other thing they were planning to buy.
The video comes from user TexasTantrum, who shared their clip on the Austin subreddit. In it, the OP is driving through the middle lane on a highway. In the left lane, you can see a white vehicle, also going at a normal speed. Suddenly, a black car comes flying from the back, narrowly passing the white vehicle by using the right lane, which, as you may know, is not permitted. The careless drivers quickly enter the left lane and continue driving at high speed.
Besides the fact that this person passed the other driver by using the wrong lane, you can also observe just how close it was to colliding with either of the two vehicles. Yet, this shouldn’t be a surprise, as the OP shared a few more details. They say the driver already had three DUI convictions, making the decision to allow them to remain on the road deeply concerning.
While thankfully this incident was nothing but a close call, it was still pretty scary for those who were minding their own business on the highway. For this reason, this citizen from Austin is strongly urging other drivers to get a dash cam, as it can help in situations like this.
As you can imagine, other people who watched the clip shamed the careless driver.

In the end, it seems the victim tried to reach out to solve this situation. Still, the careless person ghosted them and also threatened the OP with a harassment complaint, claiming the victim had “false accusations” despite the footage clearly showing the one in the black vehicle was in the wrong. Hopefully, authorities will intervene because they shouldn’t really allow someone with three DUI convictions to be driving like this on our streets.
