Do you ever go somewhere and you don’t necessarily feel wanted there? Sometimes you get that feeling from a cashier or employee. Well, two customers at a Dollar Tree in Alabama sure weren’t feeling welcomed. After stopping there for some quick shopping, they were confronted in the most passive-aggressive way by a Dollar Tree employee. Apparently, it was near closing time, but rather than be patient, the employee had to make their shopping awkward.
Maegan (TikTok/maegmccormick) is big on making crafts and wanted to check out an Alabama Dollar Tree for some fun things to do. As she says in the caption to her latest video, “Just wanted to look at the craft supplies but ok!” She walks into the store with a friend and you can hear an employee loudly announce, “You guys got TWO minutes. If you’re not out of here, see you tomorrow.” Maegan’s friend, the one recording, was dumbfounded and could be heard uttering “damn.”
In the same video, Maegan shows that they arrived at Dollar Tree at 8:23 PM. She then shows the listed time schedule for said store, which stated 10 PM was closing time. Being local to here, she probably already knows how late the Dollar Tree is open. She said the employee took the time out of her day to come onto the intercom just to yell at them to get out of the store within two minutes.
Maegan adds the employee actually told them they had a few minutes to shop multiple times on the intercom. They only managed to record it once. She wonders why the employee was so quick to throw them out when they so clearly had an hour and 45 minutes to do their shopping.
One commenter pointed out, “My store closes at 9 and I have ppl who will come in at 8:55. It pisses me off so much like why wait that late. This situation seems odd though.” Just about everyone on Earth has done that once or twice. It’s annoying, but sometimes it’s an actual emergency.
Another commenter claims it may have been a totally different issue. As they say, “Dollar Tree is known for not being properly staffed and not wanting to pay for overtime.” Perhaps this employee was just looking to call it quits for the day.
One commenter suggested the employee may have had an “emergency” and she was the only one closing. In that scenario, they can close early, they said, then added, “I’m sure you didn’t need anything you couldn’t get elsewhere.”
Maegan responded to said comment, saying, “There’s a better way to say it. Simple as that.” When another commenter agreed with the original commenter, the original poster then accused Maegan of wanting to get “that black lady in trouble.” Nothing in Maegan’s video suggested that was the goal, however.
