For those unfamiliar, in the United States, theft costing $1,200 or more is considered a felony. Some retailers will focus on recurring thieves, watching them steal over the felony amount before approaching them. In Alabama, two women were filmed allegedly running away from a Dollar General after having stolen more than $700 worth of product. According to the person recording, this isn’t the first time the women were seen doing the same thing at another nearby dollar store. In fact, the woman recording the video claims that she was told that the other robbery had happened only hours before.
The video above depicts a woman trying to cover the license plate of an SUV with what appears to be some kind of burlap sack. According to the caption on the video, the woman covering her license plate was one of two who had been robbing local dollar stores. The two had allegedly just come from robbing a Family Dollar just a few hours before arriving at a Dollar General to steal over $700 of product.
The woman recording didn’t say anything as she continued filming the video. However, the woman covering her license plate was getting increasingly agitated, even tapping on the car’s back window to signal the driver to begin driving, hoping to get away. Unfortunately for the thieves, the woman recording was able to rip off the burlap sack and get a perfect view of the license plate. However, it’s unclear exactly what happened afterward, as this is where the video ends.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, commenters were quick to commend the woman recording for her swiftness in removing the license plate. Various comments were something along the lines of,
“Man I screamed when you ripped it off 😂😂,” and, “She ripped the cover off the plates and the person that covered it up was still trying to catch up to the car🤣🤣.”
Hopefully, the women were apprehended before getting too far with all of that product. It’s easy to only think of yourself when stealing from stores, but at the end of the day, it’s other shoppers who are going into those stores on that day who are really paying the price. The retailer can easily restock those items, but people in need will have to go elsewhere in the meantime.
