Alan Wake 2, Remedy Entertainment’s long-awaited survival horror sequel, is almost here, and fans want to know how long the story will take them to complete. This sequel comes 13 years after the original Alan Wake and features two playable protagonists, Alan Wake and Saga Anderson, an FBI agent. While survival horror games tend to be on the shorter end of things, Remedy Entertainment’s games are a bit longer, with Alan Wake and Control listed as about 11 hours on How Long To Beat to mainline the story. So, how does Alan Wake 2 stack up compared to those titles? Here’s how long it takes to beat Alan Wake 2.

Despite having two protagonists this time around, it seems like Alan Wake 2 takes about 12 to 13 hours to complete if you are purely pushing the main story. Our reviewer took about 15 hours to complete the game, albeit they were missing out on some collectibles and side quests as well. We estimate you could easily get another 5 to 7 hours tracking everything down for that vaunted 100%.

While it seems like the story could be completed in a dozen hours if you rush straight through without dabbling in any side activities, most players are going to come in close to the 17-hour mark, taking some time to explore the spooky world of Alan Wake 2. Players like myself, who are cowards in horror games, might take even longer to push through some of the scarier sequences, further increasing the overall playtime.

Alan Wake 2 releases on October 27 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
