Alanis Morissette’s reworked Yellowjackets theme is fire. Really, that is not an exaggeration. First of all, if you are not familiar with Showtimes’ Yellowjackets, you need to be. It’s Lord of the Flies with high school girls, and it turns way darker. Like (SPOILERS) eating each other levels of dark. And one of the standouts to the show was the intro song, “No Return.” A frantic, grunge-tinted song about that captured the feeling of the show perfectly.
Now, Alanis Morissette has redone the intro, which has been added to the show this season. It just feels right having an iconic female singer from that era repping the show. She somehow makes the song even more chaotic and foreboding. She hasn’t gone this dark since “You Oughta Know.”
Alanis Morissette’s Reworked Yellowjackets Theme is Fire

Alanis Morissette offered her take on “No Return,” the theme song for Showtime series Yellowjackets. Morissette’s grungy version of the credits track, written by Craig Wedren and Anna Waronker, appeared in the fourth episode of the show’s current second season.
“I love the original version of ‘No Return,’” Morissette said in a statement. “It’s just a perfect song. It was a little daunting to be asked to reinterpret it but I see parallels between Yellowjackets and my perspective while songwriting: the sheer intensity, that going for the jugular with no fear around going for the profane.”
Here’s why it works so well. The show is set in the 90s, with 90s music as its theme. So having one of the most iconic singers from the 90s lend her voice to the opening track just makes it hit harder. We also need to remember it also works fantastically with the female-centric themes of the show itself. What I think really makes it stand out is just how tense the whole thing feels. Morissette may not be known for too many dark songs, but when she does them, she nails them.
Doesn’t hurt that the show is damn near perfect, either.
