Typically, once you’ve enjoyed your dinner at a fancy restaurant, you’d likely head to your car park to drive home. Others, meanwhile, may take an Uber or catch a bus, or if you’re really lucky, you may be close enough to walk home. But what about flying home in a plane after you’ve visited a restaurant? Now that’s pretty unusual, no? Well, that’s exactly what happened with this Alaska man who was caught on camera flying home in a plane after dining out at a local eatery.

The startling footage is making the rounds online at the moment, and is accompanied by the caption, “Restaurant customers come in all forms in Alaska“. In the video, a witness at the scene is recording on the side of the road, right next to some signage, and is facing a highway. In the distance, you can see a restaurant on the side of the highway, and in the car park, there’s a small black plane that’s moving slowly across the dusty terrain.

Surprisingly, once the road is clear, the plane begins to carefully manoeuver its way onto the highway, and once it picks up some speed, its front propeller begins to rapidly spin up. After several more meters, the plane takes off into the air, and flies over the cameraman’s vehicle, with its loud engine whirring as it passes overhead. Talk about a cool exit, right?

As the stunning clip garners attention online, social media reactions came pouring in. Over on Reddit, one person was surprised by how quickly the plane took off into air, writing, “I know very little about planes, but I’m impressed at how quickly it got off the ground.” while another explained, “These planes are equipped for Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) because they often need to use short runways or surfaces that aren’t true runways at all.”

Elsewhere, others compared to the footage to modern video games like the Grand Theft Auto series, with one commenter penning, “This feels so GTA San Andreas“. A fourth comment came in from an Alaskan local who shed some light on the surprising aviation culture within the US state, exclaiming, “Alaskan here!! If someone is flying a plane to get some food… they are not living in an unreachable village. They are just having fun. Also fun fact, Alaska has the most bush pilots and planes in the world! 🫶🏼”
