It’s always good to see people coming together for a shared cause, but for a cause only some believe in — maybe not so good. Republican senator of Alaska Lisa Murkowski has her doubts about President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act yet decided to vote for the bill nonetheless. However, she believes that others should not vote for it. “My hope is that the House is gonna look at this and recognize that we’re not there yet,” Murkowski stated, telling reporters that the Senate should keep the bill in the oven for a bit longer.
Murkowski has even shared her personal disdain for the bill, saying, “Do I like this bill? No. But I tried to take care of Alaska’s interests.” It’s quite bold for a Republican to speak out against the will of the current power-hungry President, so it’s fairly admirable she’d make such a statement. However, users on Reddit feel a bit less respect for the Alaskan senator. So, in essence, “I’m a hypocrite,” reads the top comment on a post covering Murkowski’s response to One Big Beautiful Bill. “So wait she voted yes to a bill but doesn’t want it. You know it passed 51-50, right?” remarked a user in disbelief. “If you had voted NO like you wanted to but didn’t for some goddamn reason it wouldn’t go to the house AT ALL!!!“
“Translation – ‘I knew what I was voting was bad and still said yes to it,'” added another. On the other hand, there were some commenters who tried to explain Murkowski’s comments through her shoes. “A no vote would have killed the bill outright. A yes sends it back to congress where they have the chance to tweak and send it back again to the Senate,” elaborates one user. That said, she didn’t want to repeal the bill outright. Instead, the senator was hoping it would be sent back so it could have more time to cook. Still, many find it hard to empathize with someone who publicly states they’ve voted for something they don’t like or believe in.
