Alec Baldwin‘s Rust has finally made its debut over three years after the tragic shooting incident. The Western movie came to a halt in October 2021 after the actor fired a prop gun that killed Halyna Hutchins. The late cinematographer was honored in the film’s trailer alongside her husband, Matthew Hutchins, who served as EP.
Halyna was replaced as cinematographer by Bianca Cline, who appears to have done a fantastic job completing the movie. The Rust trailer served all the action fans have come to love from Western flicks. From quick gun draws to epic horse chases, the story follows Alec’s character defying the odds to save his grandson.
The trailer went viral on YouTube for several reasons, with many having mixed reactions to the movie. Although many agreed the trailer looked interesting and worthwhile, some couldn’t get past the production tragedy. “Alec just firing guns at people isn’t what we need to see right now,” someone stressed.
Another echoed similar sentiments, slamming producers as soulless for releasing the movie. A third agreed the film wasn’t worth it, writing, “All this insanity and loss of human life for a movie where Alec Baldwin does the least convincing accent of his career.” Meanwhile, an excited fan declared they would give the film a chance.
Alec Baldwin’s Rust Trailer Rocked by Criticism

The criticism continued on X, with someone claiming producers “sacrificed a woman to make that movie.” Another suspected the film would be a box office failure, noting it should have been “scrapped” after the shooting. A third agreed, wondering who would want to see a movie where someone died in reality.
A critic lamented the unjust situation, slamming the support Alec and his family have received after Halyna’s death. “I can’t believe this guy murdered someone and is rewarded with a show about him and his delusional wanna-be Mexican wife,” the X user quipped. The show they referenced was a reality TV program about Alec and his wife, Hilaria Baldwin.
Earlier this month, Hilaria addressed the Rust shooting on an episode of the show. We covered the story, reporting she alleged the incident had impacted her husband’s health. The media personality claimed Alec suffered from “survivor’s guilt,” noting he would change places with Halyna “in a second.”
Hilaria Baldwin Claimed Her Husband Was Struggling After the Tragic Shooting

Hilaria stressed that the aftermath of Halyna’s death severely affected her husband’s mental health. She claimed he was hospitalized several times due to heart issues and even fainted from guilt. Alec echoed similar sentiments, noting he suffered from PTSD and felt “happier when asleep” than awake.
Although the Boss Baby star was acquitted of his involuntary manslaughter charges, he wasn’t completely relieved. The Hollywood veteran feared prosecutors might change their minds after dropping their chance to appeal. The emotional episode wasn’t well received, with Lucy Mangan of The Guardian describing the show as a “new low for television.”
