Alec Baldwin‘s recent health update wasn’t pretty. The actor and his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, shared that his mental health struggles were in a “decline” during the first episode of their family’s reality TV series. During the episode, Alec’s health was a topic of discussion as well as the issues he’s faced since the fatal on-set shooting that took to life of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and the trial that followed.
According to The Independent, Alec Baldwin got candid about his mental health on the show. It was revealed that he had been diagnosed with OCD in the past. However, following the Rust shooting, he had also suffered from PTSD. At the time the episode was shot, the actor was preparing to head to court to face involuntary manslaughter charges for his role in Hutchins’ death.
“Everyone who is close to Alec has seen his mental health decline,” Hilaria said.
Meanwhile, Alec told a similar tale. “My good friend said to me the other day, he said, ‘How are you doing?’ and I said, ‘I’m happier when I’m asleep than when I’m awake,'” the Beetlejuice actor confessed.
After the episode was filmed, Baldwin’s manslaughter case was dismissed. However, at the time, the actor was seen in the throughs of mental health struggle. Of course, that didn’t stop the critics from sharing harsh reviews of the reality series.
Alec Baldwin Health Decline Update Revealed On Highly Criticized Family Reality TV Series

Lucy Mangan of The Guardian called the series “a new low for television” and claimed that the show was in “extremely poor taste.” Mangan discussed the impact that the Baldwins’ mentions of Hutchins’ death could have on her family, deeming it “entirely unnecessary.”
Other critics also ripped the show and Alec Baldwin for a failed attempt to restore the actor’s image following the shooting. Unfortunately for Baldwin, many fans seemed to feel the same way.
“Alec Baldwin should be thanking the Lord every darn day for being able to afford the best lawyers to get him off manslaughter charges. Instead, he gloats, plays victim, and is as foul & nasty as ever,” one person wrote via X.
“That woman he shot has a family, and to have this goof ball in his face about that tragic situation is messed up to me,” another stated.
“The Alec Baldwin reality show is such a bad career move and lacking any self awareness,” a third person commented.
Only time will tell if Alec Baldwin’s reality TV series will be helpful or harmful to his career. However, at the very least, he has opened up more public conversation about mental health. However, many don’t appear to have much sympathy for him at this time.
