In addition to two Golden Globes wins, Linda Lavin’s role as Alice Hyatt on the CBS show earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 1979. As the titular character, Linda Lavin rendered the role of Alice, a single mom of a 12-year-old son, working as a Mel’s Diner waitress in Phoenix, to fend for herself and her young son after her husband’s death.
The show initially debuted as Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore on CBS, adapting the Martin Scorsese-directed movie of the same title. However, as the popularity grew, the title was shortened to Alice.
