Marvel is bringing its twisty series to the Alien franchise with the new Aliens: What If…? comic. This new series is reshaping the universe by answering the question, “What if Carter Burke lived?”. Carter Burke was the Weyland-Yutani Corp. executive portrayed by Paul Reiser in the 1986 Aliens film. The character was ultimately revealed to be responsible for the deaths of more than 150 colonists. Eventually, Burke met a gruesome end at the hands of a Xenomorph. However, Marvel is resurrecting the character to see a version of the world that could have been.

Aliens: What If…? takes readers back to Hadley’s Hope and back to Weyland-Yutani Corp. executive Carter Burke. This time around, Burke manages to make his great escape, thus changing the Alien Universe for better or worse. An official synopsis for the series contemplates what this world could look like with Burke still in the game. After all, he is a character debatably eviler than the murderous Xenomorphs. So, what would he be doing thirty-five years after the Hadley’s Hope incident?

That is exactly where Aliens: What If…? picks up. Three decades later, Burke is living out a cursed existence on a backwater asteroid. No longer the star pupil of Weyland-Yutani Corp., he only has one remaining focus: his daughter Brie. Unfortunately for Burke, his daughter hates him and the things he has done. So, when she uncovers that her father is working on another plot, she is naturally upset. Is it possible that Burke’s near-death experience humbled the man, or is he up to his old tricks again?

Putting Together A Team

The five-issue limited series brings Paul Reiser back to the world of Aliens. Reiser and his son, Leon, teamed up with Adam F. Goldberg, Brian Volk-Weiss, and Hans Rodionoff to write the series. They are joined by artist Guiu Vilanova and cover artist Phil Noto to bring Aliens: What If…? to life. According to Reiser, this limited series will finally show the world whether Carter Burke was truly the bad guy or just misunderstood.

Aliens: What If…? comes out of Marvel’s 20th Century Studios imprint and releases on 03/06.
