Throughout all the years that Destiny 2 has been around, there have been 8 expansions already, which is good to know the order of. Starting in 2017, the expansions are released regularly, giving us more exciting and interesting content every year or so. That being said, there is quite a bit to keep up with now, and if you’re new to the game, knowing the order of expansion releases is important if you want to play through them in order. Keep reading to learn about all Destiny 2 expansions in the order that they were released.
Curse of Osiris (2017)
Curse of Osiris was released on December 5th, 2017, shortly after the game’s official release. The Curse of Osiris expansion introduced a few new characters, as well as new missions, locations, and gear to unlock.

Warmind (2018)
Warmind was released shortly after Curse of Osiris on May 8th, 2018. Warmind follows the story of Ana Bray, a Guardian who everybody thought was lost. The Warmind allows access to a new raid, new weapons, activities, strikes, and even a new location.

Forsaken (2018)
Forsaken was released after Warmind on September 4th, 2018. Though, as of September 22nd, 2022, the Forsaken content is no longer available and resides in the Destiny Content Vault. Taking place in the Reef, Destiny 2: Forsaken revolves around the massive breakout of the Fallen, who have escaped from the Prison of Elders and must be taken care of. They are released by the Scorn and Uldren Sov. It’s up to you to avenge the death of Cayde-6 and work with The Spider and Petra Venj in order to hunt down the 8 Barons of the Scorn.

Shadowkeep (2019)
Shadowkeep was released on October 1st, 2019, following the Forsaken expansion. Unlike Forsaken, you can still purchase and play the Shadowkeep expansion. Shadowkeep takes place on the Moon, where Iris Morn released new Nightmares into the world that once were kept dormant below the Moon’s surface. It’s up to you to help contain this uncontrollable power.

Beyond Light (2020)
Beyond Light was released on November 10th, 2020, following Shadowkeep. In Beyond Light, you must hunt down Eramis, the Kell of Darkness, who is found on Europa with her army of Fallen. Within Beyond Light, there were quite a few new features unlocked, including a new Subclass for your guardian.

The Witch Queen (2022)
The Witch Queen, following Beyond Light, was released on February 22nd, 2022. Throughout The Witch Queen, you will venture into Savathûn’s Throne World and hunt down the Witch Queen herself. Take a look below to learn about some of the new things you can experience in The Witch Queen expansion.

The Final Shape was released on June 4th, 2024. Within The Final Shape, you take a trip into the Pale Heart to try to release the Traveler from the Witness’s grasp once and for all. Meanwhile, you’ll meet up with some old friends and make some new ones.
