Other Potions
Aside from craftable Potions, there are also ones that cannot be obtained through normal means. Minecraft Potions listed below don’t come with a recipe.
- Potion of Luck: Increases Luck by 1 point for 5 minutes. There are no recipes for these Potions, only found through console commands or Creative Mode inventory in Minecraft Java and Legacy Console Edition.

- Potion of Caring: Moves toward the nearest mob for 1 minute and 30 seconds. Only found through console commands or Creative Mode inventory in Java Edition.
- Potion of Sharing: Randomly drop random items for 4 minutes. Only found through console commands or Creative Mode inventory in Java Edition.
- Potion of Decay: Damages 1 health every second for 40 seconds. Only found through console commands or Creative Mode inventory in Bedrock Edition.

- Uncraftable Potion: Placeholder item in Java Edition only.

Learn Brewing Before Making Potions
The recipes to make Potions in Minecraft require you to brew Water Bottles or Awkward Potions with other ingredients using a Brewing Stand. The crafting station can be made with Blaze Rod x1 and Cobblestone x3.
Step by step for brewing:
- Put Blaze Powder x1 in the Brewing Stand fuel slot.
- Add Water Bottles, Awkward Potions, or other Potions to one of the three slots at the bottom.
- Put the Minecraft Potions recipes ingredient in the top slot.
- Wait a few seconds until the arrow bar on the right is filled.
- Grab the crafted Potion in the bottom slot.
Where to Loot Potions in Minecraft
Aside from brewing recipes, Potions can also be acquired as loot from mobs or from a specific location in Minecraft. Here are all the currently known locations:
- Witches: This mob fights by throwing and drinking Potion at every tick or 1/20 seconds. They will drop Healing, Fire Resistance, Swiftness, or Water Breathing Potions if defeated while drinking them.
- Wandering Traders: They have a chance to drink a Potion of Invisibility during nighttime. If killed while drinking one, they will drop the Potion.
- Piglins: Trading Gold Ingot with them has a chance of bartering a Water Bottle (2.18%) or a Potion of Fire Resistance (1.74%).
